What Is Roblox?
Roblox is a free platform where millions of players explore user-created games β called experiences β every day. You can roleplay in a city, fight with anime powers, hatch pets, solve horror puzzles, or build boats and race them. Each experience is made by a different creator, so the library is huge and always changing.
You don't need to pay to play. Most experiences are free to join, and many offer promo codes for in-game currency, boosts, or cosmetics. PlayPatch tracks those codes, tier lists, and beginner tips for the most popular Roblox games so you can skip the guesswork.
Creating Your Account
Go to roblox.com or download the Roblox app on mobile, PC, Xbox, or PlayStation. Click Sign Up, pick a birthday (Roblox uses this for chat and safety settings), and choose a username you like β usernames can be changed later with Robux, but it's easier to pick something you're happy with from the start.
Use a strong password you don't reuse on other sites. If you're under 13, chat is filtered more strictly and some features are limited. Parents can add a PIN in Settings β Parental Controls to lock account changes.
Verify your email after signing up. It helps you recover your account if you forget your password and unlocks some security options.
Your First Launch
After logging in, you'll land on the Home page. The main tabs you'll use are:
β’ Home β recently played games and friend activity β’ Discover β browse by category, trending, and top charts β’ Avatar β customize your character's look β’ Robux β the in-game currency store (optional)
Tap any game thumbnail and hit Play. On PC, Roblox opens the client or browser player. On mobile, the game loads inside the app. Your first load might take a minute while assets download β that's normal.
If a game won't load, check our Is Roblox Down page to see whether it's a platform outage or a connection issue on your end.
Basic Controls
Controls vary by game, but most Roblox experiences share the same defaults:
PC β WASD to move, Space to jump, mouse to look, Left Click to interact or use tools. Press Esc to open the menu.
Mobile β virtual joystick to move, tap buttons on screen for jump and actions. Some games support auto-run.
Console β left stick to move, face buttons for jump and interact. Check each game's control hints in the first few seconds after joining.
If you're stuck, look for a tutorial NPC, a Help button, or a rules board near the spawn point. Most popular games walk new players through the basics in the first minute.
Finding Games Worth Playing
Start with genres you already enjoy β racing, horror, anime fighters, pet simulators, or social roleplay. On Discover, use categories like Top Trending or Up-and-Coming to see what's popular right now.
PlayPatch covers 40+ of the biggest Roblox experiences with codes, tier lists, and beginner guides for each. Good starting points for new players:
β’ Adopt Me β family-friendly pet collecting and trading β’ Brookhaven RP β open-world roleplay with no combat pressure β’ Pet Simulator 99 β satisfying grind loop with codes for free pets β’ Arsenal β fast round-based shooting, easy to pick up β’ Blox Fruits β deeper anime RPG if you want a long-term goal

How to Redeem Codes
Many Roblox games run promo codes that give free currency, boosts, pets, or items. Codes are usually typed into an in-game menu β look for a Twitter bird icon, a Codes button, or a Settings panel.
General steps:
1. Launch the game and wait until you're fully loaded in 2. Find the Codes or Promo button (often on the side of the screen) 3. Type the code exactly as shown β codes are case-sensitive 4. Press Redeem or Claim
If a code doesn't work, it may have expired or hit its redemption limit. Check the game's codes page on PlayPatch for the latest working list and step-by-step redeem instructions for that specific game.
Robux and Spending Wisely
Robux is Roblox's premium currency. You buy it with real money, or earn a small amount through Premium membership and some creator programs. Free players never need Robux to enjoy Roblox β codes and grinding cover a lot of early progression.
If you do spend Robux, prioritize game passes that save time permanently (2x currency, extra storage, auto-features) over one-time consumables. Avoid third-party sites promising free Robux β they are almost always scams.
Never share your password or Robux login codes with anyone, including people who claim to be Roblox staff or famous YouTubers.
Staying Safe on Roblox
Roblox is built for all ages, but you should still use common sense:
β’ Don't share personal info β real name, school, address, or phone number β’ Be wary of "free Robux" or "duplicate item" tricks in chat and Discord β’ Use official trading windows in games like Adopt Me β never "trust trade" outside the system β’ Report players who harass you: tap their name β Report β’ Enable Account Restrictions for young children (Settings β Privacy)
If someone asks you to move to another app, send a screenshot of your login, or "just hold my items for a sec," decline. Legitimate players and creators don't need your account access.
Friends, Groups, and Social Play
Add friends by searching their username or accepting requests on the Friends page. You can join the same server as a friend in most games by clicking Join on their profile when they're in-game.
Groups are fan communities run by creators. Joining sometimes gives you group-only perks or access to private servers. Stick to official groups linked from a game's page or a creator's verified social media.
Voice chat is available on accounts with verified age and parental permission. Text chat is filtered by default. You can mute individual players in-game if chat gets noisy.
Your Next Steps
Once you're comfortable moving around and joining games, pick one experience to focus on for your first week. Read its beginner guide on PlayPatch, grab active codes for a head start, and check the tier list so you know what's worth working toward.
Check back weekly β we update codes after every major patch and refresh tier lists when the meta shifts. Save your favorite games to your Favorites page for quick access to codes and guides.
